You Should Only Optimize for One Keyword or Phrase per Page

By WordsmithBob

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is all about page theme.

It’s amazing to me how many people selling themselves as experts, who are in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO)“business”, don’t know this. So many people who should know better, still try to “stack” a whole series of keywords in the keyword meta tag on a single page.

Using a single theme per page

Real SEO is about picking a single theme for each page of your website and optimizing that page from top to bottom for that one theme. Every element, from graphics to alt tags to the “description” meta-tag to the page title to the page text or web content, it should all point to that one theme. That is how you get the attention of the search engines.

Plenty of relevant text or web copy

And all the text or web content on that page must be relevant to that theme. In addition, you should have a minimum of 150 words on the page (again, all relevant to that theme), and preferably, 300-400 words on the page. (400 words max.)

If you have secondary, lower ranking keywords that apply to that page, don’t list them in your keyword tag. Use your secondary keywords in the text in keyword phrases if possible.

Limit your description meta tag

And lastly, Google only shows approximately 152 characters of your description meta tag. So try to keep your description shorter than that. (And if you only have one relevant keyword and a single theme for the page, it shouldn’t be difficult.)
