Michael Ramah article in Advertising Age
By WordsmithBob
Barbara Mednick of BKM Consulting sent me a link to Michael Ramah’s article in Advertising Age As We Move From Citizen Journalists to Citizen Marketers, Am I Obsolete?
It’s an excellent response to the fears of both journalists and marketers that they will become obsolete because of the direct interaction of citizens with each other and businesses. He makes a good point that even though businesses may conduct their own social media marketing campaigns, they still need marketers to guide their campaigns and interpret the results and feedback they get from customers. And a marketer can show them how to capitalize on the relationships they establish.
Journalists also need to keep in mind that while, yes, there are millions of blogs out there and even the worst ones on the planet may have one or two readers, there are only a handful that are truly competing with established newspapers and magazines. It’s just a little more competition, not a wholesale wipe-out.
