Highlights from the SEO Meetup last night…
By
Last night, I attended the SEO Meetup organized by Rob Flournoy and Michelle Schmidt. Of course, it’s formal name is the Minnesota Search Engine Marketing Authority MeetUp. Yep, I went to the SEO Meetup last night. And as always, walked away with a page of notes.
There were a couple of new people there last night which made it fun. Sometimes we have to apologize to “newbies” when we start to “geek out” on the strategies and tactics of “white hat” versus “gray hat” versus total “black hat” SEO and SEM. But everyone seemed to learn something new last might. And, hey, the beer was good!
Here’s a few interesting tidbits I picked up:
- Landing pages must have depth now. It used to be that if you made a landing page or sales page, it just needed to be a simple page that sold your product. That’s not enough anymore. Now your landing pages must be search engine optimized and have depth as in links to and from quality content.
- Contact people who republish your articles and offer them content directly. If you publish good solid articles on sites like EzineArticles or GoArticles, there’s a good chance other people will republish your articles. Do a search on Google to find these people and offer to write content for them to get more content and links back to your website.
- If you buy related URLs, don’t put redirects to your website on them. In other words, if you buy related keyword URLs similar to your business URL, rather than put simple 301 redirects on them to your website, you’ll get a lot more bang for your buck if you put blogs on them with links in the blog posts to pages on your website. Then submit articles with links to your blog posts on the article marketing sites.
- My big contribution of the evening was mentioning Greg’s High Performance SEO plugin for WordPress. One of the attendees mentioned All In One SEO plugin for WordPress websites and blogs. All In One SEO is okay of you want automated SEO. But if you really want top notch SEO for your blog or website, this plugin is the best. You can learn more about Greg’s High Performance SEO plugin here…
