Is Search Engine Optimization Worth the cost?
ByJerry Roelofs of Roelofs Remodeling, a member of my BNI group, hired Design Tech Consulting to design a new website for his remodeling firm. They did a great job on the design. My firm, WordsmithBob.com, was brought in to write the copy for the Roelofs Remodeling website and to do the search engine optimization.
Jerry’s new website went live a month ago. Jerry says he has been contacted seven times from the website in the last month. Four people downloaded his new free do-it-yourself ebook on creating a remodeling plan and three of them contacted him directly for a quote on a remodeling job.
Doesn’t sound like much does it? Except for three things:
- That’s more contacts than Jerry got from his previous website in it’s entire history
- Jerry only does business in five high-income communities where his average remodeling job is close to $100,000
- His new website has only been up for a month.
I’m not going to tell you exactly what Jerry paid me for his web copy writing and his search engine optimization but suffice it to say it was less than $3,000.
So ask yourself how much one deal is worth to you. And ask yourself how much business your current website is bringing you. And ask yourself one more question:
If you amortize the cost of search engine optimization over the course of three years (the average lifespan of a website), and your website starts bringing you seven solid leads per month, what’s your return on investment for search engine optimization?
Might be worth a phone call, don’t you think? 612-226-7667. Or at least a request for quote.

If you were to ask any of my clients whether search engine optimization is worth it or not, you’d get a definite yes answer. Not being found on the search engines versus being on the first or second page and having traffic to your website the difference between making money and going broke. I’m amazed at how many websites out there are more concerned with looking flashy or with some other beautiful design intention than with getting visitors to their website and making sales or gaining leads for their business.

Good combination Bob, a good web design company and you as the copywriter. Jerry has made a good decision to revamp his site using such a combination of services.
Organic SEO services are definitely worth the cost, but it takes website decision makers’ resolution to get to a point where they understand and choose search engine optimization as the best way to boost their website business.
Many just suffice to a beautiful design and stop there. Some realize the importance of coywriting for their sites, Only those who realize and choose to use a combination of the two will stand from the crowd.
