Bad Marketing Examples #1

j0309804 Bad Marketing Examples #1Talk about bad marketing examples! I was driving home today from a client meeting. While I was stopped at a light, I noticed writing in white in the back window of the car in front of me.

Someone had taken white paint and written Angela’s Amazing Day Care with contact information on the glass. Okay, amateur but it’s more marketing than some of my client’s have done in the past.

Then my eye caught a bumper sticker stuck to the back of the car in almost better eye line than the painted sign. It said:

Anger Management Graduate: What the hell are you looking at?

Hmmm. Everyone who thinks that’s a good bumper sticker to put on the back of a car advertising a day care service raise their hand. If you raised your hand, DO NOT go into business because you will fail, miserably.

Now, if you laughed or shook your head and thought that person really screwed up, I ask you to take a look at your own marketing.

  • Are all your marketing materials up to date?
  • Do they all push the same message?
  • Does your website match the message your business cards and brochures are delivering?

In other words, is your marketing message consistent? Are there spelling or grammar mistakes? Is the information out of date?

And while we’re at it, are you monitoring the Internet with Google Alerts to make sure you know about any negative messages out there about your company? How can you counteract negative reviews or negative messages if you don’t know about them?
