WordsmithBob Speaking on Online Marketing
By WordsmithBob
Yep, ol’ WordsmithBob (that’s me) is going to be speaking at the January meeting of the Midwest Independent Publishers Association (MIPA) on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 7pm.
Where you might ask? At the Minneapolis/ Bloomington Hilton at 494 & France. (NOT the airport Hilton).
Topic: Online Marketing For Introverts – The idea being that writers are generally not “outies” so a good online marketing campaign might be just the thing to help them sell their books.
Wanna know more? Here’s the whole PR “thing” they put out:
Online Marketing, and a little bit about E-books
Yes, we’ve covered some of this before, but online marketing is constantly changing and becoming even more important. We all know that publishers’ marketing budgets are not what they once were. All publishers, whether it’s Random House or a smaller press, rely on authors to market their books.
If you’re an introvert who shudders at the thought of appearing on television, or you have a full-time job (and/or children) and your marketing time is between 10pm and midnight, or you’re speaking four nights a week but want to take advantage of every marketing opportunity available, come to this meeting.
Bob McClain (aka: Wordsmith Bob, www.wordsmithbob.com) is a recovering technical writer who has built a successful career helping others sell their products and services through online marketing. He’ll talk about the importance of marketing, including marketing mistakes he’s witnessed (and committed), what kind of online marketing is the best use of your time (biggest bang for the hours), including search engine optimization, link-building, copywriting for the website and more…and all in understandable English (remember, recovering technical writer).
We’ll also take a little time to talk about e-books, because at least five new e-book readers were unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show, including full-color and bendable e-readers. And Apple’s announcement is still to come — almost as anticipated as above-freezing temperatures. I’ve heard the words “revolutionizing publishing” connected with Apple’s announcement, but it’s all rumors until the unveiling at the end of the month.
