How To Lose Business…

If you’re a regular reader, you know that I gave a presentation the other day to the Midwest Independent Publishers Association on Online Marketing for Small Publishers and Authors.
They scheduled and paid for a meeting room at the “new” Bloomington/Minneapolis Hilton near 494 and France in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. When I got there, there was no podium. Lots of free Hilton pens and pads on the tables and all the talbes and chairs you’d need for a presentation but no podium. I asked an employee about a podium and she came back five minutes later and said it would be forty dollars extra. The President of MIPA and I looked at each other and shook our heads. We carried a table in from the hall and set it up at the front of the room as a “pretend” podium.
The President of MIPA called Hotel Sofitel the next day and moved all their subsequent meetings there. They had been looking for a new place for their monthly meetings and the Hilton lost what could have been years of depedable revenue over a measly $40.
I guess someone at Hyatt’s headquarters forgot that they are in the “hospitality” business.
