Recommended Book on Content Marketing Strategies

I don’t buy a lot of books on marketing. I find most of them to either be just a lot of re-hashed junk I’ve read on blog posts or full of useless pie-in-the-sky theories. I’m a pragmatist. You want to sell me a book? It damned well better have some useful, apply-it-today marketing ideas and tools.
Well, I finally bought a book that impressed me. It’s called Get Content Get Customers by Joe Pulizzi and Newt Barrett. And yeah, that’s an affiliate link to Amazon. But what the heck, they usually have the best prices on books so I don’t feel guilty getting my 25 cents for recommending the book to you.
Now, why do I recommend it? For one thing, I love case studies. And this book has some good ones to back up what he’s recommending. Don’t tell me what I should be doing if you can’t point to some people that have already done it successfully. I’m not a guinea pig. Let’s talk about why I love case studies.
Case in point? Ferrari. Yes, Enzo Ferrari.
Ferrari was never an innovator and yet he had one of the winningest track records in Formula One racing. Why? Because every year, some racing team would introduce a new innovation to their race car and win a few races because of it. But, of course, because it was new technology, it would break a lot or tear up their car because they didn’t have it completely figured out yet.
The next year, those innovations would show up on Ferrari’s race cars, properly engineered and integrated into the car’s systems, and blow everyone off the track.
I may not be a “thought leader” but I like to use methods that are new but proven. And then I combine them and blow my competitors off the track.
Read Get Content Get Customers and integrate the methods he outlines in the book into your existing marketing plan.

No prob, Joe. A great book like that one should be in as many hands as possible. I’m already applying ideas I picked up in it in my business and in my client’s businesses. Thank you!

This sounds like a terrific book for getting great ideas. I’m almost done with John Jantsch’s worthwhile book THE REFERRAL ENGINE and I have a few other books I’m also reading at the same time. But GET CONTENT GET CUSTOMERS sounds like a good candidate for my “to read” pile.
