No One Searches the Internet For Our Business

By

I’ll be honest. I really didn’t think any business owner still believed that. I haven’t heard, “no one searches the Internet for our business” in years.

But I had a call yesterday from a potential client who told me that they wanted a website copywriter to make their web copy more sales and marketing oriented. When I asked him about search engine optimization, he told me that the only people who visit their website are the people they send there for more information. “No one searches for our business on the Internet,” he told me. I almost choked.

They are an IT Services company. He told me that he had an IT Services firm before this one for 8 years and they never got a single contact from the website. I’m not surprised. If their site is burried on page 50 of the search engine results, why would anyone ever find them on the Internet to contact them?

So let’s take a look at Google Adwords Keyword Tool and see if anyone is searching the Internet for IT Services:

All I can say is there are a lot of people looking on the Internet for IT Services.

The only question left to ask yourself is:

Do I want to be on the first page of Google when people search for my business or do I want to be buried on page 50 of the search results and let my competitors get all that search action? The difference is search engine optimization. Hint: Call me! 612-226-7667

Wow, Bob.

This is a serious issue, methinks. I’ve had only one other prospective client tell me this and say they thought SEO was, for the most part–unnecessary. This IT services company is kidding themselves if they think they don’t “need” any kind of help with SEO, even the bare-bones stuff. I think 450,000 people can’t be wrong.

Hey Bobbi!

They aren’t the first potential client that has tried to tell me this. Too many companies get set with one way of doing business and can’t seem to break out of that way of thinking. How many times have we heard someone try to introduce something new at a company only to be told, “that’s not the way we do things here.” Usually, those companies eventually go belly up because by the time they figure it out and finally decide to change, it’s too late.

Hey Bob

I get this problem all the time, either this or they are trying to rank a terrible site for an incredibly competitive keyword. Apart from link building, many clients are not tracking conversions or on-page actions – which is where stats packages such as Google Analytics and Clicky can really help. I’m frequently amazed at clients who say they can’t get business online!
