Julia Allison in Wired Magazine Teaches the Secret to Online Promotion
By
How many of you read the article in the August issue of Wired Magazine on Julia Allison and online promotion? I found it intriguing.
While I have no interest in promoting myself online to become a celebrity (no money in it that I can see), I saw a great deal of potential in her methods for promoting your business.
Especially if you ARE the business such as a personal or business coach, a lawyer, a consultant, doctor, or CEO of a small ad agency. You need to get in front of people, You need to cultivate a certain amount of celebrity.
I show up at an event and everyone knows my yellow Ford Focus with the matte black hood, matte black effects and my company name, WordSmithBob.Com on three sides of the car.
People always comment on what a great speaker I am (I train my voice every morning). And I use this blog as an integrated part of my self promotion.
My next campaign will be building a page about my firm and myself on at least 40 different social networking web sites. And after that, I’ll begin an Article Marketing campaign. All this in addition to my Small Business Marketing Secrets newsletter.
So many small business owners and consultants I know can’t seem to understand why they are struggling. They have a great product or service, They can work miracles for their clients. Why isn’t the world beating a path to their door, they wonder?
When I tell them they have to do more promotion, they have to get in front of people, they have to get their name on the tip of every tongue on the Internet, they balk. That’s just not me, they say.
That’s when I tell them it wasn’t me either but I got tired of being a brilliant but starving copywriter. If you want to play that game of I’m too good to do self-promotion then I have no sympathy for you as I watch you slowly slip into oblivion or continue to struggle financially.
I don’t care how good you are at what you do or how hard you work. If you aren’t willing to put yourself out there and get some promotional mojo going for you, you’ll never amount to anything.
Read the article, follow the advice, make some real money…
I believe it was James Watt, Secretary of the Interior under Ronald Reagon who said to farmers, “Get big or get out.” If you want to be in business and be successful at it, you need to “promote yourself or get out.”
And if you’d like someone to take over the job of getting you up and running on twenty different social networking web sites, follow the link to my Social Media Marketing and Social Network Marketing Service…

Thanks for the heads up, I guess I never made it past the cover
. What social networking sites are you planning on building your company profile page? Are there some that are better then others? LinkedIn is the only one I can think of.

If you go to my Social Network Marketing Service page on my web site (see below), I have a downloadable list of the twenty sites that my research indicates give the best return for your time as far as small business promotion is concerned.
The page, of course, is a promotion of my service of creating these pages for businesses. However, if you aren’t interested in that, you can still get the downloadable pdf of the twenty sites I recommend with a short explanation about each one. And it’s free. Good luck!
