Sarah Palin Won Because She Didn’t Lose? Please!
ByI actually heard one of the University professor commentators on Public Television say that “Palin won because she didn’t lose.”
Certainly, Palin didn’t implode. I’m actually glad of it. Nobody wants to see this person make a fool of herself in the debate like she did in her Katie Couric interview.
However, the only time she impressed me was when she spoke from personal experience as the Governor of Alaska. She spoke in her own, confidant voice drawn from decisions she made as a leader.
But almost all the other questions, especially the foreign policy questions, made it obvious she was struggling to remember what the McCain people fed her and told her to say. Her speech wasn’t natural and her knowledge was superficial and I never got the feeling she was saying what she thought.
And the folksy stuff? “Gosh darn it” is not how I want my president to come across to leaders of foreign countries. Joe sounded presidential and every time he spoke, it didn’t sound like he was trying to remember what someone told him to say. He spoke from personal knowledge and personal experience and conviction.
And I got tired of Palin ignoring the questions such as “What is your Achilles heel?” and “What personal conviction has changed for you?” Biden answered the questions very thoughtfully. Palin simply went off on an anti-Obama tirade or spouted political slogans.
No, Plain didn’t implode and I’m happy for her. But she’s no Geraldine Ferraro or Senator Clinton either. Joe Biden clearly won hands down.
