There’s No Such Thing As Writer’s Block
By
Writer’s block is a myth. It’s a fallacy. It doesn’t exist. Writer’s block is the result of being too lazy to research your subject.
There, I’ve said it. No excuses and no whimpering. If you haven’t done the research, then how can you possibly write about something?
The other stupid excuse for writer’s block is the result of the writer relying on “muses” to produce the work. And that’s the big word here. Work.
Writing is hard work. There are few things chap my hide more than people making comments like, “it must be nice not to have a real job.” Writing is a tough job that can keep you up until 2am in the morning or get you out of bed at 3am in the morning.
You can’t write about what you don’t know about.
If you have writer’s block it’s because you haven’t done your research. If you want “muses” to produce the work, you still have to give the “muses” something to work with.
A muse is nothing more than your sub-conscious. While you are busy reading and studying on your subject, your sub-conscious is also hard at work correlating and arranging and making connections.
That way, by the time you’ve stuffed your conscious mind with massive amounts of data, your sub-conscious is ready to start pumping out words.
If you do the initial work of researching your subject until you know it better than the people you’re writing to or about, then that “muse” will crank out the writing like Army Ants on a rampage.
