When you’re putting together your website optimization plan, you need to think both globally and locally. Your plan needs to have an overall goal you’re looking to achieve so your page optimization doesn’t go all over the map. You only need a handful of keyword phrases that you want to optimize your site for.

Thinking about page optimization

But when you do the actual optimization, you should think of each page individually, as if it were its own, one page micro-site or landing page. You only want to pick one keyword phrase for that page and one associate, lesser phrase and then optimize that page for those two keyword phrases.

Don’t dilute your website optimization

The more keywords or keyword phrases you optimize a page for, the more you will dilute the effects of your optimization and the lower in the rankings that page will fall. Optimize each page of your site individually for one or two keyword phrases and you will have strong pages that rise individually to the top of their niche, drawing the whole site up with them.
