How to get free and easy content for your blog or website

The following is an email I sent a client today (who has a magazine that targets a local community) on some ideas she could use to get free and easy content for her magazine and blog.

I’ve got an idea on how to get content for free for your new website, blog and magazine. There must be all kinds of people around your town that would love to do guest blog posts for the magazine. You might even get guest articles submitted if you ask for them.

Why not put out a request in your next edition of the magazine asking for guest bloggers to regularly blog about the community and also for guest articles on various aspects of the community. (Make sure they know that the articles will be edited for space and proper grammar).

You might also ask the city government if they have any content you could use for the magazine and website or if anyone on the parks board, fire department, police department, (police and fire departments always have a need to spread the word about fire and boating safety, regulations, safety, safe fun, etc.), mayor’s office (upcoming festivals, events, elections, etc.), local librarians (they might be willing to write short monthly articles for a feature section called “Great Reading on the Deck or Dock”), ask some local restaurants to submit favorite recipes or feature stories about their chef.

One great enticement to get businesses to submit content is to offer what the online article directories call a “resource box.” At the end of any article submitted by a business or government entity, they get a box at the end of the article with their contact info. And when you use the article on the website or blog, they get a link back to their website.

You might try a request on Craigslist too. Just be straight that you can’t afford to pay but it will be a publishing credit for any aspiring writers.

Hope this helps!
