Small business marketing is nothing but salesmanship…
By
Jay Abraham just reminded me of an important point about small business advertising. It is nothing but good salesmanship on paper or on a screen. He made a fabulous point about cutesy, witty, flippant or "branding" ads or commercials.
If you own a small business, you either have salespeople working for you or you do your own selling. Either way, would you ever make a pitch or presentation to a potential client or customer by being cutesy, witty, flippant or by making a "general branding statement"?
If you don’t believe that would sell a potential client or customer face-to-face, then why would you do it in your ads, commercials or on your website?
Just the opposite also applies. And I see this on so many small business websites. You can’t afford to bore your visitor or put them to sleep with a dry dissertation all about you or your business or your product or service. You need to combine energy, an exciting offer, and keep your sales pitch focused on the only thing that matters to your potential client or customer. THEM!!!
