Ever Heard of WOMMA? Perhaps You Should Learn More.

I know I’m constantly harping that blogging is important for the purpose of creating content. But it’s also a very important part of the Web 2.0 phenomenon, also referred to as Social Marketing or in this case Word of Mouth Marketing. Social Marketing is the idea behind getting socially engaged with your customers, clients, potential customers and clients, and the public in general on the Web.

WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) is an organization created by some of the largest corporations in the United States to set up standards and encourage best practices in corporate blogging. Here’s how they describe themselves:

WOMMA is the official trade association for the word of mouth marketing industry. WOMMA’s mission is to promote and improve word of mouth marketing by:

  • Promoting “best practices” to ensure more effective marketing
  • Protecting consumers and the industry with strong ethical guidelines
  • Evangelizing word of mouth as an effective marketing tool
  • Setting standards to encourage its use

If you are considering becomming a blogger, especially if you are a CEO or executive of a corporation, it might be a very good thing to read everything you can find on their website and then join them. Here’s the link to WOMMA.
