Using Free Downloads to Collect Email Addresses

I’ve read some articles recently that claim that free downloads don’t work anymore to get email addresses from visitors. I’ve just seen proof positive that those people are wrong.

Again, I reference Roelofs Remodeling because it is such a fresh example. As part of his online marketing campaign, I created a series of ebooks for Roelofs. He gave me the planning questionnaire he usually goes over with potential customers to help them narrow down what they really want for their remodel.

Using it as a model, I contracted Lisa Drew of Lyrical Biz to create a series of impressive looking ebooks that people could download by simply giving their name and email address.

The website has been live for only a month and already, Jerry Roelofs has had four of the ebooks downloaded. Those are four people that he knows are looking for remodeling and because of our search engine optimization, he knows they live within the area he does remodeling. He is free to market to these people and the odds are very high that they will be interested in hearing from him.

The key to being successful with collecting email addresses with free downloads is:

1. That your site has been search engine optimized so that the people downloading your free materials are really in your target market
2. And that the downloads be really useful tools that your target market will really want.
